Perhaps the wettest and coldest February many can remember is now over, although the prospect of still further cold weather is ever prominent. March is a time when we are invigorated to get out in the garden, start our mowing, think of changes we would like to do in the garden and what the coming spring and summer has in store. If you are getting out into the garden or simply thinking about it, here are a few of our tips.
- Complete jet washing on brick paths, terraces and other areas that are susceptible to moss and algae build up, consider applying a liquid moss killer to these surfaces first and then jet washing the dirt and grime away. Apply kiln-dried sand after the jet washing, but only after the path has dried out. Let Country Park Landscapes moss kill and remove the grime and dirt from you pathways.
- Apply moss treatments to lawns and spring Fertilizers towards the end of the month. Let our team of grass professionals inspect your lawn free of charge and give you a tailored Yearly Programme.
- Feed borders with Fish Blood & Bone 70g – 120g per m2 - we supply Organic Fish Blood & Bone at competitive prices, just £16.83 for 25 kgs we also supply a wide range of other Products and Fertilizers
- Prune roses, for a free essential guide to pruning roses, email us at advice@countryparklandscapes.co.uk – why not ask our horticulture experts to help you with a rose pruning and maintenance programme.
- Finish renovating deciduous hedges before birds start nesting
- Top dress containers with fresh composts
- Cut back Cornus and Willow grown for winter colour
- Start to weed kill hard surfaces as weeds appear
- If you are thinking about planting bare root trees and shrubs you have until the end of March to do so. Country Park Landscapes are able to supply a wide range of trees and shrubs at trade prices, why not ask us for our complete list of trees and then ask us to plant them at minimal cost.
- If you are thinking about garden improvements this year that may include design, new structures, terraces, paths and planting, now is the time to start seriously considering implementing this type of work for completion by the spring or summer. Why not look at our Design Page.
Weather for March
The first week of March was a lot drier than the last week of February, but temperatures were still below average with cold mornings and hard frosts, Northern England and Scotland saw further snow falls and heavy rain.
The second week of March looks more settled across the UK in general with more sunshine, but temperatures look to stay below average, with southern England reaching between 6 and 10 degrees and further hard frosts at times.
The third week of February looks as if temperatures will increase but the strong likelihood of rain showers returning to Southern England with Scotland starting to dry out after the rain of the last few weeks.
In general, temperatures look to stay below normal, but the theme is consistent to the harsh winter we have experienced this year. Rainfall however as been below average for the first two weeks of March and therefore ground conditions are starting to improve in southern England.
