A sudden change in our weather for April accelerated growth rates and budding, although in many respects the season is still quite late. Although it could be argued that the season as it should be, but perhaps that is better left to others to discuss and let history decide! Many Oaks are now starting to bud out, which if you are a believer in old wives tales - “Oak before the Ash, we are in for a splash” or “Ash before the Oak, we are in for a soak” - you will probably hope that May will be a fine month. However if May continues how it starts I would think we are in for an unsettled period. To find out what the weather is doing, see our weather bulletin at the bottom of the page. If you are getting out into the garden or simply thinking about It, good or bad weather, here are a few of our tips.
The first week of May will be a lot cooler than the last week of April, with Temperatures in the south east not reaching above 15c all week. The wind will be from the North / North East. The risk of frost is unlikely due to the wind; however the wind could be damaging to tender plants with gusts between 15 & 22 mph throughout the week. Generally staying Dry and long sunny spells, but don’t put the winter coat away just yet.
The second week of May looks to be a repeat of the first week, with the chance of more rain as low pressure moves in and the North wind still has hold on colder temperatures.
We aim to update our weather weekly, so keep checking back for updates.
