Borders and planting areas are often the jewel in the garden crown, but can be time
consuming and often the part of the garden neglected above everything else.
With dedicated teams of qualified horticulturists attending and nurturing a wide
range of gardens, from the small town garden to the large country estate, individually
servies are created with a dedicated team, who know your garden as well as you do
and take pride in every aspect of their work.
At our initial visit we will determine the border types and the plants within, we
then tailor an individual program taking into account soil type, pruning programs
and feeding programs, special areas of interest or requirements and recommendations
for the future, below is an extraction of a recent report for border work.
| Soil type |
ph 7-8 clay based with organic matter, heavy in places, the introduction of mulch in the form of 50% FYM and Green organic matter would greatly benefit the soil this autumn and a general feed of Bone meal, excluding acid plants. |
| Plants / shrubs |
Mixed planting of shrubs and small trees, two Rhododendrons which are in poor health, given soil type these will need replanting in an acidic soil mixture. Shrubs are well established, ranging from winter flowering to summer flowering. The border has some spring bulbs which need lifting and separating in the autumn of 2009. Some of the planting has suffered from mildew and aphid infestation, we will work into our yearly program treatments for this problems. |
| Pruning program |
The Acers require the dead wood removed immediately, winter flowing shrubs to be pruned as required spring 2010. Spring flowering pruned directly after flowering together with the mock orange in early summer. All other pruning as required for shape and flower. The large Hebe is to be removed to allow more room for the under planning of Iris. The herbaceous planting can be lifted and separated to fill bare areas of the borders throughout the garden where the colour scheme and type are similar. |
| Feeding program |
The introduction of Bone meal this autumn and mulch will increase the vitality and structure of the soil, increasing the nutrient content. Next year we will apply an organic liquid foliar feed and further Fish Blood and bone. The acidic plants will be fed with sequestian of iron and specialised feeds. |
| Recommendations |
These borders are established but are in need of some renovation; once the autumn works are completed we will then evaluate the seasonal growth over the next year to see if any further planning is required. The renovations listed above should see great improvements to the shape and structure of the garden. |
Our individually created programs can be crafted around your requirements and the needs of the garden through a one off service or with weekly, bi- weekly, monthly or yearly programs.
