Whilst decking was very much in fashion throughout the late 90’s and early 00’s, inspired by programs such as Ground Force, of late its appeal has wavered and decking can sometimes be seen as nouveau riche. This can be said with decking supplied from mass suppliers such as DIY stores and materials produced in Scandinavian countries being cheap and knotty, however in the last few years there has been a revival for good quality products and decking designs that lean towards a different market.
Decking materials can now be produced from Oak, Iroko, Cedar and high quality pine, the need for safety grooves in decking is very much a false requirement as the grooves will make the deck more slippery in wet and icy conditions. Decking that is thick and chunky – Marine Decking – is a much sort after style and is becoming more popular with designers and landscape architects.
Cheap decking is often thrown together, it must be remembered that the deck is a structural piece of engineering, which must stand up to years of use and be structurally sound. Decks can be inches of the ground or metres, or constructed within water, and this is why Country Park Landscapes design every deck to exacting standards and engineering specifications. This gives you the satisfaction and confidence to create the perfect decking area without comprise on safety.
Every deck is designed individually, taking into consideration the environment where it’s to be installed, the type of wood to be used and the finish, together with other considerations such as balustrade, which can include iron railings, glass or wood.
By definition a pergola is a garden structure constructed from either wood, stone or metal, or a combination of materials. The structure can be used in a variety of different ways, including walk ways, shading for terraces or as a folly in some area of the garden. Over the pergola you can train and climb an abundance of plants such as roses, wisterias, clematis, ivy, honeysuckles or a mixture to suit your taste.
You can often purchase “off the shelf” pergolas from garden centres and DIY stores, however they do lack the graceful craftsmanship of a bespoke design and can often be cheap with a limited lifespan. If you decide bespoke construction is better served for your needs there, are choice of materials available which should be consider carefully with either one of our designers or independently.
