Advice Tips for March 2011

With February a distant memory and with March well underway we can look at the garden with renewed vigour and anticipation with spring flowers bursting through, such as Daffodils (Fig 2) and Forsythia (Fig 3). After a milder February than twelve months ago many springflowers are well ahead from where we were last year.

Mowing has already commenced in our maintenance departments and spring applications of grass fertilizers needing to be applied soon. Now is also the time to be spreading Border Fertilizers such as Fish Blood & Bone and Growmore. We are offering discounts on border fertilizers and have listed below our best price ever for your garden. If you are getting out into the garden or simply thinking about it, here are a few of our tips from the Garden Doctor.

  • Complete jet washing on brick paths, terraces and other areas that are susceptible to moss and algae build up, consider applying a liquid moss killer to these surfaces first and then jet washing the dirt and grime away. Apply kiln-dried sand after the jet washing, but only after the path has dried out. Let Country Park Landscapes moss kill and remove the grime and dirt from you pathways.
  • Apply moss treatments to lawns and spring Fertilizers towards the end of the month. Let our team of grass professionals inspect your lawn free of charge and give you a tailored yearly programme (link to grass care page) From £19.29 per 500 square metres.
  • Feed borders with Fish Blood & Bone 70g – 120g per m2 - we supply Organic Fish Blood & Bone at competitive prices - please see below.
  • Prune roses, for a free essential guide to pruning roses, email us at advice@countryparklandscapes.co.ukwhy not ask our horticulture experts to help you with a rose pruning and maintenance programme.
  • Top dress containers with fresh composts.
  • Cut back Cornus and Willow grown for winter colour.
  • Cut down ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials.
  • Start to cut the grass and collect resulting cuttings.
  • Apply mulches to beds and borders – if you have your own compost mix this in to open borders as a soil conditioner.
  • Start to weed kill hard surfaces as weeds appear.
  • If you are thinking about planting bare root trees and shrubs, you have until the end of March to do so. Country Park Landscapes are able to supply a wide range of trees and shrubs at trade prices, why not ask us for our complete list of trees and then ask us to plant them at minimal cost.

If you are thinking about garden improvements this year that may include design, new structures, terraces, paths and planting, now is the time to start seriously considering implementing this type of work for completion by the spring or summer. Why not look at our design page
